Report on Lessons & Insights from Cultural Strategists in Local City Government

Challenge

Create a web and print report showcasing the impact of Oakland’s Cultural Strategists-In-Government (CSIG) program, which partners artists with city departments to tackle civic challenges through creative solutions. The report needed to communicate the program’s value to city officials, highlight key accomplishments, and help secure future funding—while authentically reflecting Oakland’s cultural history and deep community roots.

Outcome

The goal was to create a report that felt fresh and dynamic while honoring the city’s legacy of organizing and resilience. The design featured collages blending archival images with CSIG photos, visually linking Oakland’s history to present-day efforts. The collages symbolized the continuity of activism and empowerment in the city, with each image reflecting both the past struggles and the ongoing work of cultural strategists. A printed texture unified the imagery, while navy and rust orange evoked trust and heritage.
